Reporting from New York Jets HQ in Florham Park, NJ—The New York Jets found their starting right tackle with the seventh overall pick in Armand Membou. Now, it seems that they have found their starting tight end.
The Jets drafted LSU tight end Mason Taylor with the 42nd overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NFL draft.
Taylor is the son of Hall-of-Fame edge rusher Jason Taylor of the Miami Dolphins.
The younger Taylor will turn 21 on May 8 and is one of the youngest players of the 2025 draft class. In three seasons with LUS, Taylor recorded 129 catches for over 1,300 yards and six touchdowns.
“He’s a smooth athlete with adequate acceleration and the tools to become a more effective route runner in time. He feels defenders around him and catches with sudden hands and elevated focus when needed,” Lance Zuerlein reported. “He can handle blocking duties on the move or in space, but in-line action will be a challenge for him. His game needs polish, but Taylor has the ability to become a higher-volume target for a team looking to upgrade at the “F” tight end spot.
Considering the Jets’ current depth chart, the tight end position may have been the team’s most dire need. Jeremy Ruckert is currently TE1, which Jets fans hope will be rectified with the selection of the LSU product.
In 38 collegiate games, Mason Taylor collected 1,308 yards and 6 touchdowns on 55 receptions. He joins a rush-heavy offense led by quarterback Justin Fields and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand.
