The New York Jets brought in a starting quarterback who should at least make things exciting on the fantasy football front.

By the time Aaron Rodgers got to the New York Jets two years ago, his days as a top quarterback in fantasy football appeared to be nearing an end. That came true with Rodgers ranking 21st among quarterbacks (minimum five games) in fantasy points per game during the 2024 season.

In 2025, the Jets are going to try a different approach.

With the signing of Justin Fields to a two-year deal, Gang Green is putting their chips for the foreseeable future on the back of the former first-round pick out of Ohio State.

And unlike Rodgers, Fields should at least make things exciting on the fantasy front.

Jets’ Fantasy Star?

There will be plenty of debate on the impact Fields can have in fantasy as the Jets’ starting quarterback.

Some groups have him as a top 10 fantasy option at the position. On Twitter, Top1 Fantasy ranked Fields as the ninth-best fantasy quarterback going into 2025.

Others, such as ESPN’s Field Yates, rank the former Bear and Steeler as a top-15 fantasy quarterback.

Either way, the basic premise coming out of Florham Park is that Fields’ rushing abilities and big arm will allow him to make some exciting plays for the Jets going into the new season.

In 2022, the first time Fields played over 13 games in his career, he finished sixth in average fantasy points per game according to Fantasy Football Today. During the 2023 season, despite playing just 13 games, that number dropped to 12th, but it is still worthy of consideration.

In short, when Fields plays, he can be a fantasy asset for any team.

While the fantasy results will certainly be something to watch, the only thing that matters to Jets fans is the win-loss record.

Can Fields do enough as the starting quarterback to end New York’s 14-year playoff drought, or at least their almost decade-long stretch of sub-.500 seasons?

He’ll need to show a lot more moving forward for that to be the case. But his work as a potential fantasy target will at least mean the Jets could be in for some excitement on the offensive end throughout the upcoming season.
