When the New York Jets entered the 2025 draft, they were a team that had major needs across both sides of the ball. Because of that, some power rankings around the league had the team as a bottom-six squad.
Now that they have addressed some, they appear to be even worse.
In a shocking turn, based on the league’s latest power rankings by ESPN, the Jets fell all the way to 30th in the league – just ahead of the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants.
It’s not all doom and gloom, though! New York is drawing praise for its improvements in one key position group.
Jets’ Offensive Line Improvements
As part of the article from ESPN, Jets beat reporter Rich Cimini made it clear that the team’s offensive line was the most improved group over any other following the completion of the draft.
“Quite frankly, the Jets haven’t made significant immediate improvement in any one area. But the offensive line improved in the long term, as No. 7 pick Armand Membou replaces the venerable Morgan Moses (Patriots) at right tackle,” Cimini said. “The Jets will miss Moses’ experience and savviness, but Membou brings power, speed and explosiveness to the position.
“With four returning starters and Membou, the offensive line — under construction for a few years — finally has a chance to be something special.”
The draft selection of Membou is a strong reminder that all of New York’s projected starting offensive linemen are under the age of 28: Olu Fashanu (22), John Simpson (27), Joe Tippmann (24), Alijah Vera-Tucker (25), and Membou (21). That kind of youthful input could very well turn the Jets’ offense around quickly.
The fact that the Jets’ offensive line could be a dominant group means New York may be in for a more successful season than most want to expect.
That wasn’t enough to save them in the latest power rankings, though.
Low Power Rankings
Believe it or not, the Jets’ latest ranking is due to fear. There is simply too much of an unknown at this point surrounding key points of the roster.
We don’t know how good of a coaching staff Aaron Glenn has built. Justin Fields may or may not be good enough to save his career. There are still legitimate holes on the roster along the defensive line and at receiver.
Couple that all together, especially with having a quarterback who statistically has been one of the lowest-ranked players at the position in his career, and you get a fair ranking as the third-worst team following the draft.
That doesn’t mean the Jets are screwed, though. They do have a strong offensive line, and that alone can keep you in a ballgame. If their defense gets back to excelling in their first season under Glenn, New York should be a lot better than people may expect.
