Speaking to reporters on Thursday following the New York Jets’ second training camp practice, head coach Aaron Glenn said that quarterback Justin Fields suffered a right toe injury.

The severity remains unknown, according to Glenn. The Jets’ head coach believes Fields was stepped on, but wants to rewatch the film to confirm.

“Justin went down with a toe injury on the right side of his foot. I don’t know the severity of the injury, but I do know it is a toe on his right side,” said Glenn, with our own Robby Sabo on hand.

The head coach also praised veteran Tyrod Taylor, who is the next man up at the quarterback position for Gang Green.

“Listen, we have an outstanding backup in Tyrod, who has been in this league for around 14 years, so we are all good.”

Fields was carted off the field after appearing to suffer a lower leg injury during 11-on-11 drills. He got off the cart under his own power and walked into the facility.

The signal caller signed with New York this offseason on a two-year contract worth up to $40 million, with $30 million guaranteed.

Fields and Taylor remain the only quarterbacks on the Jets’ roster with regular-season NFL experience.

Rounding out New York’s depth chart are undrafted rookie Brady Cook and Adrian Martinez, who appeared in all three of the team’s preseason games last year, throwing for 270 yards, one interception, and no touchdowns.

UPDATE: According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Fields sustained a dislocated toe. The injury does not involve a fracture or the big toe. He is still undergoing tests, but that is the initial diagnosis.
