New York Jets fourth-round draft selection Malachi Moore has turned heads throughout the offseason, consistently flashing his playmaking ability.

Head coach Aaron Glenn has taken notice.

Speaking to reporters during Monday’s training camp practice, Glenn was discussing the Jets’ live tackling drills when, without being prompted by a question, Glenn raved about Moore’s performance this offseason.

“Young fella. Two-seven. He is going to be a hell of a player in this league,” said Glenn of Moore (who wears No. 27). “I’m not going to tell you who I compare him to, but he’s going to do some really good things for us.”

Glenn pumped the brakes short of labeling Moore an immediate starter, but he also didn’t rule out the possibility.

“I’m not saying it’s going to be at a starter level. And it can be. He’s out there competing, and we’re seeing if he can get a job. And he understands that. But there are other things that we can do with that player, on special teams and certain defensive packages, where he is going to be able to excel.”

A standout at Hewitt-Trussville High School in Alabama, Moore arrived at the University of Alabama as a four-star recruit and never looked back, spending all five collegiate seasons in Tuscaloosa.

Moore was a staple in Nick Saban’s secondary, appearing in 64 games and compiling 214 total tackles, including 16 for loss. He also notched seven interceptions, 25 pass breakups, and three forced fumbles over his Crimson Tide career.

Moore showed steady growth in all phases of his game during his final collegiate season. He earned an 89.4 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus in 2024, one of the best marks among SEC defenders, and added a solid 75.5 grade against the run.

Despite his production at a college powerhouse, Moore slipped to the fourth round due to his limited athletic profile (6.11 Relative Athletic Score). However, with the Jets’ safety room lacking proven production at the NFL level, Moore has a clear opportunity to carve out an early role in New York’s secondary.

Backed by a glowing endorsement from head coach Aaron Glenn and a standout offseason, Moore is poised to capitalize on a wide-open safety competition and make his presence felt in the Jets’ secondary this season.
