The New York Jets held their annual Green and White scrimmage on Saturday, and it was ugly at times. Penalty flags flew and injuries began to pile up.

Saturday’s scrimmage practice saw a trio of contributors go down with injuries.

The first and potentially most serious of the injuries was to special teams ace Kris Boyd, who was carted off the field with a shoulder injury.

The Jets are already down special teams ace Irv Charles, who suffered a torn ACL last season and is currently on the PUP list. If Boyd misses serious time (the Jets have yet to clarify the severity), it’s unclear what the Jets will look like on special teams.

This could open the door for some roster bubble candidates. One beneficiary could be linebacker Ja’Markis Weston, who signed for one of the largest guarantees that New York gave to a UDFA this offseason. Weston was a special teams ace for Florida after bouncing around multiple positions for the Gators during his college career.

Wide receiver Josh Reynolds may have also suffered an injury during the day, as he was seen limping off the field.

Reynolds has established himself as the Jets’ clear WR2 with his play during the summer, so if he were to miss any time, it would be a serious blow to a Jets team that is already struggling to find answers at the WR position.

Xavier Gipson, who is fighting for a roster spot this year, left the field with a trainer. Glenn later said that Gipson has a shoulder injury.

Gipson has fallen down the depth chart at WR and needs to win the punt return job if he’s going to make the roster. However, he was already getting serious pressure from UDFA Jamal Pritchett before the injury. If Gipson is to miss any amount of time here, it could spell the end of his time with the Jets.
