New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields will miss the team’s Week 3 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The news was confirmed on Wednesday by Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, who stated that Fields is still in concussion protocol and will not suit up at Raymond James Stadium.

“One person that I can just say [is] out right now would be Justin. He’s still going through his [concussion] protocol. So, he’ll be out.”

Fields exited the Jets’ Week 2 loss against the Bills with a concussion early in the fourth quarter. It capped off a miserable day for New York’s starter, who completed 3-of-11 passes for 27 yards in a 30-10 defeat.

The absence of Fields paves the way for Tyrod Taylor to get a full week of preparation as the Jets’ starting quarterback. Taylor has made three appearances with the Jets across the past two seasons, but this will be his first start with the team.

Taylor owns a 28-28-1 career record as a starting quarterback. He last started for the New York Giants in 2023, when he led the team to a 2-3 record across five starts.

The Jets hope that Taylor’s steady hand can stabilize an offense that failed to sustain drives against Buffalo in last week’s one-sided loss. The 36-year-old veteran knows how to protect the ball and take what the defense gives him. With a career interception rate of 1.6%, which ranks fourth-lowest in NFL history, Taylor is a classic game manager who can keep the offense on schedule.
