The New York Jets have made a pair of roster moves at the running back position.
Following his injury in Monday night’s loss to Miami, Braelon Allen (knee) will be placed on injured reserve. In a corresponding move, the Jets signed Khalil Herbert.
It is unknown whether Allen’s injury will be season-ending. According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, surgery is possible, although Allen is still being evaluated. The feeling, though, is that Allen’s return will at least take longer than the minimum of four weeks.

Drafted in the same class as Justin Fields, Herbert spent four years in Chicago, playing 48 games with 12 starts. He rushed 372 times for 1,791 yards and nine touchdowns, adding 45 receptions for 291 yards and two touchdowns.
In 2024, Herbert was traded to the Bengals, where he played eight games with one start. Herbert rushed 28 times for 114 yards and no touchdowns.
Most recently, Herbert was on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad.
Herbert also brings kick return experience to New York, having returned 36 kicks in his career. Jets special teams coordinator Chris Banjo stated Thursday morning that the team would continue to evaluate the return game after Isaiah Williams struggled mightily in the recent loss to Miami.
At the bare minimum, Herbert brings experience to a Jets offense that needed a third running back behind Breece Hall and Isaiah Davis.
