According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, New York Jets edge rusher Jermaine Johnson is expected to return from his ankle injury this week against the Denver Broncos in London.
The Florida State alum, who tore his Achilles in Week 2 last season, returned healthy for the Jets’ 2025 season opener. He logged 82 snaps across two games before exiting in Week 2 with an ankle injury, which sidelined him for the next three games.
In his short time on the field this year, Johnson has produced seven tackles, six total pressures, and a pass deflection.
Losing Johnson has left the Jets thin at the defensive end position for the last three games, where their depth has struggled mightily to nobody’s surprise. Micheal Clemons, Tyler Baron, and Braiden McGregor, the Jets’ three backups on the edge, have been unwatchable this season.
Together, the trio has registered seven missed tackles, the same number as their total pressures. For comparison, the average NFL edge rusher this season is producing roughly seven pressures for every missed tackle, highlighting just how awful New Yorkโs depth options have been.
Johnsonโs return wonโt be a cure-all, and he may not be utilized in a full capacity against Denver after spending three weeks on the sideline. But even in a limited role, his presence is significant for a defense thatโs been bleeding all around, especially on the edge. At 0-5, New York needs every upgrade it can get at any spot on the depth chart.
As New York looks to avoid its third-ever 0-6 start to a season, Johnson will ease back into game action against Denver across the pond.
