Aaron Glenn was hired as the head coach of the New York Jets to fix the issues of previous regimes.

Offensive incompetence, undisciplined play, and head-scratching in-game decisions were some of the main issues plaguing the team through their 14-year-playoff drought.

But for as much bravado and confidence as Glenn started out with, the results produced by the 2025 Jets have shown anything but improvement. The team has been flat-out disastrous.

New York is 0-7, the worst start for a first-year head coach in team history. Their offense is one of the worst in the league, they continue to make undisciplined plays on both sides of the ball, and Glenn’s in-game decision-making continues to be head-scratching.

In short, nothing has seemed to change from the Robert Saleh/Adam Gase eras in past years.

Jets reach new low

New York hit another rock bottom in Sunday’s 13-6 loss to the Carolina Panthers. For the second straight game, the defense played at an excellent level, but the offense failed to score a single touchdown.

Add an in-game quarterback benching, and the game represented a new low. It’s a familiar experience to recent seasons. From the 2022 and 2023 benchings of Zach Wilson to the disaster that was the 2020 campaign, New York has been here before.

Players like running back Breece Hall are starting to crack under the weight of those failures.

“It’s hard. We’ve been kind of in this for going on four years now, being in this organization,” Hall said. “You feel it from the fans. You feel it around the building. You feel it everywhere, you feel it as soon as you leave the locker room.

“At the end of the day, we all have something to play for, whether it’s family, whether it’s a self-motivated thing. I feel like, if you’re not motivated to come to work every day and get better, play for your teammates, your coaches, play for your family or even other reasons other than that, then you shouldn’t be in this league.”

Failing to score a touchdown in two consecutive games would be unique for most teams in the modern NFL, where points are something the league wants to see. For the Jets, though, it’s nothing new.

New York’s two-game touchdown drought matches a streak from the 2023 season. Even that year, though, the team found a way to win seven games despite multiple changes at the quarterback position.

But as the 2025 group sits at 0-7, they look as bad as any Jets team in recent history.

Changes coming?

By the time the Saleh and Gase eras were coming to an end, players seemed to be tuning out the messages that the coaching staff was preaching. No one wanted to take instruction from people who were going to be fired at the end of the year.

As bad as the 2025 Jets have been, it doesn’t seem like any massive changes are coming right now.

At the very least, that is what Glenn continues to push.

“I donโ€™t see that because the message has always been consistent and they know exactly what it is and what we have to do,” Glenn said. “Weโ€™re not getting the results that we want. But I do know this, these players are not giving up at all. I donโ€™t see them giving up on any of the messaging at all.”

Fans are seeing the “same old Jets” take the field every week. They are undisciplined, struggle to do anything easy offensively, and make questionable in-game coaching decisions.

As much as Glenn has wanted to change things, it’s fair to wonder if anything really hasโ€”or if anything even can under this coaching staff.
