Two weeks after publicly disclosing that he was battling kidney disease and in need of a transplant, former New York Jets center Nick Mangold sadly passed away Saturday night.

Mangold anchored the Jetsโ€™ offensive line for more than a decade after being selected in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

The Ohio State product became the heartbeat of New Yorkโ€™s offensive line, helping guide the team to three playoff appearances and back-to-back trips to the AFC Championship Game. During his career, Mangold earned seven Pro Bowl nods and was twice named a first-team All-Pro.

Retiring after the 2016 season, Mangold was officially inducted into the Jets’ ring of honor in 2022.

“Nick was more than a legendary center,” Jets Chairman Woody Johnson said in a press release. “He was the heartbeat of our offensive line for a decade and a beloved teammate whose leadership and toughness defined an era of Jets football. Off the field, Nick’s wit, warmth, and unwavering loyalty made him a cherished member of our extended Jets family.”

“On behalf of the entire Johnson family and the New York Jets organization, we offer our sincere condolences to Jenny, their four children โ€” Matthew, Eloise, Thomas, and Charlotte โ€” as well as to Nick’s extended family, friends, and all who loved him,” said Woody Johnson.

He was 41.

Rest in peace, Nick Mangold.
