The New York Jets have their first winning streak under Aaron Glenn.
They didn’t pull it off in the prettiest fashion, but for a team that started 0-7, every win is a step in the right direction.
New York’s special teams led the way in a 27-20 win over the Browns, scoring two return touchdowns. You can check out Michael Nania’s film breakdown of those plays here, but on the latest episode of Blewett’s Blitz, we’re going to focus on some of the main offensive and defensive takeaways that will affect the Jets’ long-term future.
Defensively, it was a solid day for the Jets, holding Cleveland to 278 yards of offense. Will McDonald broke out with four sacks after posting three over his first eight games. Jermaine Johnson added a sack while the pass defense was stingy throughout the day.
Is the young pass rushers’ progress sustainable? Have they been playing this way all year, only lacking the opportunities to translate pressures into sacks? We’ll talk about that in the review.
Offensively, though, the Jets still have plenty of issues to address. New York gained only 169 yards of offense, including 42 through the air. Justin Fields completed six passes and netted zero yards outside of one screen pass to Breece Hall.
Should the Jets make a quarterback change moving forward? The film will give us an accurate read of how Fields is actually playing and whether a quarterback change will fix some of the offense’s issues.
While Fields’ woes are apparent, they only emphasize the potential shown by the Jets’ young, talented offensive line. New York ran for 127 yards against an elite Browns run defense despite Cleveland consistently stacking the box due to a lack of fear in the Fields-led passing game.
Which linemen stood out the most? How well did Breece Hall play, and has he played his way into a long-term contract with the Jets?
We’re here to answer all of your questions about the Jets-Browns film in the latest Blewett’s Blitz breakdown.
