The New England Patriots destroyed the New York Jets on Sunday, but the villains from the north still managed to leave Gang Green with a parting gift.

The loss helped New York’s draft position, and it also pushed former Jets tackle Morgan Moses over the 90% snap threshold with the Patriots. That milestone upgrades the compensatory pick the Jets are set to receive for Moses from a projected seventh-rounder to a fifth-round selection.

This season with the Patriots, Moses has appeared in every game, while earning a stellar 73.8 overall grade from Pro Football Focus.

Compensatory picks are awarded each year to teams that lose more or better unrestricted free agents than they sign. The NFL uses a formula based primarily on a player’s average annual salary, snap count, and postseason honors to determine both eligibility and the round in which the pick falls.

The higher the contract value and the more a player is on the field, the higher the compensatory pick. Snap counts are a key variable, which is why Moses crossing the 90% threshold increases the value of the pick.

Compensatory selections are slotted between the third and seventh rounds and are finalized by the league after the season. Teams cannot trade them until they are officially awarded.

The Jets are also expected to receive a fifth-round comp pick due to Haason Reddick’s departure and a seventh-round pick after Tyler Conklin’s exit this offseason.

With just one game left in this miserable NFL regular season for Gang Green, New York Jets fans would gladly skip the final week and fast-forward to free agency and the draft.
