Ohio State star Arvell Reese is one night away from becoming the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft; at least, that’s what the consensus seems to believe.
But Texas Tech’s David Bailey is still looming, hoping to beat out his fellow blue-chip EDGE prospect in the race to be chosen by the New York Jets as the first non-quarterback of the draft.
On the eve of the 2026 NFL draft, Bailey spoke highly of the Jets, despite acknowledging their decision to cancel his top 30 visit. Reese spoke to the media at the same event in Pittsburgh, talking about his thoughts on the Jets and why he thinks he can be a superstar at the NFL level.
“My interactions with New York have been good. I like everybody there,” Reese said. “I did a 30 visit there, it went well. That’s a good organization.”
Reese praised Aaron Glenn’s vision for the team and also revealed a message Glenn relayed to him during the pre-draft process.
“I think Aaron Glenn is real serious about what he wants to accomplish and what he wants to do with the Jets. When I sat down and talked to him, he broke it down to me and told me, I’m one of those guys he thinks that fit into that narrative of what he wants to do with the Jets.”
Perhaps the most exciting answer for Jets fans, though, is Reese’s description of why he could be the league’s best player at his position.
“I think I play with relentless effort, and I’m violent. I play fast.”
Violence is something the Jets’ defense has lacked for years. Even in their most successful seasons under Robert Saleh, their success was based more on finesse and speed. New York has arguably not fielded a physically imposing defense since the Rex Ryan days.
Reese could bring that violent style of play back to the forefront in New York.
