It is widely expected that the New York Jets will allocate their second first-round selection, which is currently slotted at No. 16 overall, towards a wide receiver.
Not only is it the team’s most glaring need, but there is a strong top tier of receivers in this year’s draft class. The Jets should be in a position to secure one of those playmakers, even if it includes a slight trade-up.
One of those top-tier wide receivers who could be in play for the Jets is Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the draft in Pittsburgh, Tyson spoke about his visit with the team.
“Yeah, SJ (Shawn Jefferson), the receiver coach, real cool,” he said. “We sat there and talked for our meeting, and then I came back in there after we were all done for the day. So very, very cool dude. And SJ, I was watching some Garrett Wilson tape. He’s an amazing player. So definitely like the Jets. And Aaron Glenn, we had a nice conversation, too. Very cool dude.”
Beyond that, he lauded the team’s receiving corps as a whole.
“They have a great receiver room,” he added. “You also got Adonai Mitchell, who’s a great player. I really loved him out of college, out of Texas. So yeah, definitely just have probably the best receiver room in the league, to be honest with you [if they draft me].”
It’s a bold claim by Tyson, one that the numbers wouldn’t agree with. Behind Garrett Wilson, the Jets’ current wide receiver room has combined for 1,016 receiving yards and two touchdowns in their entire NFL careers, with Adonai Mitchell contributing 765 of those yards and both touchdowns.
Tyson is one of the most interesting players in this year’s draft class. While many teams view him as the top receiver in this year’s draft class, there are legitimate injury concerns.
In 2022, he tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL before a collarbone injury limited him in 2024. During the 2025 season, he missed four games due to a hamstring injury, but it appeared to nag as he was unable to participate at the NFL Scouting Combine or ASU’s Pro Day.
Despite that, Tyson had a private workout in front of a flurry of NFL scouts last week, which reportedly went very well and has since boosted his draft stock.
Currently ranked No. 12 on Mock Draft Database’s consensus big board, the Jets may need to trade up if they want to secure the Arizona State product and, according to his words, form the best wide receiver unit in the NFL.
