Just 24 hours before the 2026 NFL draft, the New York Jets received some of the best news possible, and it’s tied to the one position group that the organization has seemingly figured out.

Going into 2026, Gang Green’s biggest strength remains on the offensive line.

Last year’s seventh overall pick, Armand Membou, looked like one of the best rookies taken in the 2025 draft at right tackle. Olu Fashanu, New York’s first-round pick in 2023, has been a stabilizing force at left tackle as well.

Sprinkle in the interior breakout play of guard Joe Tippmann and the veteran presence of Josh Myers at center, and New York finally has a line that can be seen as a top group going into the new league year.

The same cannot be said for other teams around the league. That’s precisely why the Jets could make out like bandits on Thursday.

Latest draft report

How a draft board falls can really determine what a team does when it finally becomes their pick. New York possesses two first-round selections this year โ€” one at two and one at 16. The expectation is that the Jets should be able to get two starting-caliber players at both spots.

With clear needs at edge rusher and wide receiver, though, there had been concern that a top player may not make it to the team when they make their pick at 16th overall.

That was, until ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler came through with the kind of news that should make Jets fans very happy.

“In talking to teams today, wouldn’t be surprised to see four OTs go in first 15-17 picks,” Fowler tweeted. “Francis Mauigoa, Spencer Fano are consensus. Monroe Freeling, Kadyn Proctor have worked their way into conversation โ€” feet, length, prototype LT, and SEC pedigree.”

A run on offensive tackles would be significant for the Jets because it wouldn’t be the only offensive line group targeted early. Penn State guard Olaivavega Ioane is considered one of the better prospects in the draft and could find himself in the top 10.

That could leave five offensive linemen drafted from the third overall pick to the 16th.

Simply math will tell you that it should please the Jets.

Jets’ impact

Here’s what we actually know going into the draft. There will be one quarterback (Fernando Mendoza), at least three edge rushers (David Bailey, Arvell Reese, and Rueben Bain), one off-ball linebacker (Sonny Styles), one safety (Caleb Downs), one running back (Jeremyiah Love), and at least five offensive linemen taken (Ioane, Mauigoa, Fano, Freeling, and Proctor) within the first 16 picks.

That’s 11 selections.

For a wide receiver-needy team like the Jets, that will leave five additional picks to work through should they want to get any of the top receivers in the draft class โ€” whether it be Ohio State’s Carnell Tate, Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson, or USC’s Makai Lemon.

A trade-up could certainly be on the table. There’s another way this impacts the Jets, though.

There are many teams that are picking after New York who are desperate for offensive line help. While New York wouldn’t want to reach for the next tier of receivers, they could find a trade partner in the 20s and still come away with a quality pass catcher like Washington’s Denzel Boston.

The more offensive linemen who could go in front of the Jets, the better. It’s no longer a distinct need for the team, and that could prompt others to use the organization in a trade.

Giving the Jets the kind of resource the organization loves right now.
