One of the most exciting parts of draft day is watching the eye-popping trades go down, and there have certainly been some wild ones over the years.

For the New York Jets, there has been recent buzz about a potential move up from pick 16, but nobody has really discussed the possibility of the team trading out of their first selection at No. 2.

Don’t rule it out, though.

Could the NY Jets slide back from No. 2?

In recent days, reports have indicated that Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, who many tout as the top player in this year’s class, is expected to go to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 3.

There are several teams in the top 10 picking behind Arizona who reportedly have a strong interest in the running back, including the Tennessee Titans (No. 4), New York Giants (No. 5), and Washington Commanders (No. 7).

Keep an eye on the Titans.

Over the past year, Darren Mougey and Mike Borganzi have made several trades, including the Jarvis Brownlee Jr. deal and the Jermaine Johnson-for-T’Vondre Sweat swap earlier this offseason.

According to the trade value chart, a fair deal for the Jets and Titans would include Gang Green receiving picks 4, 35, and 66. That would amount to a 10-point benefit for New York. In that scenario, the Jets would own three second-round picks (Nos. 33, 35, and 45) along with a top third-round pick at 66, which the team currently lacks.

A deal like that makes a ton of sense for both teams. The Titans land a generational running back to pair with their young signal-caller Cam Ward after adding WR Wan’Dale Robinson on the free agent market. On the other hand, the Jets add even more premium Day 2 capital while moving back just two spots.

Throughout two offseasons as the Jets’ general manager, Mougey has shown he is not afraid to get bold on the trade market. Will that same logic translate to his approach on draft night with the team’s No. 2 pick?
