The New York Jets currently employ four quarterbacks on the depth chart, but which man is entrusted with QB2 duties remains in doubt. On Monday, that topic becomes even more intriguing, thanks to the latest reported NFL transaction.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Tyrod Taylor decided to remain in football, signing with the Green Bay Packers.

“Veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor is signing with the Green Bay Packers, per source,” Pelissero posted on X Monday afternoon. “[There’s] a new No. 2 in Green Bay.”

Taylor, 36, signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Jets two years ago. Then-general manager Joe Douglas sought a veteran backup quarterback for Aaron Rodgers after the latter’s devastating Achilles injury in the season opener the year prior.

Unfortunately for Douglas’s Jets, 2021 No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson could not get the job done once Rodgers went down.

Although Taylor originally signed as the clear-cut backup, he, of course, was thrust into action on a number of occasions. The longtime veteran thrower amassed 898 yards and 8 touchdowns (to 5 interceptions) in 8 games (4 started) in his two seasons in Northern New Jersey.

More crucially, around these parts, Taylor making the Packers his eighth pro football home throws the Jets’ quarterback situation into a more unpredictable blender. Who in the world will call himself QB2 to starter Geno Smith?

Sophomore Brady Cook, young journeyman Bailey Zappe, and rookie fourth-round selection Cade Klubnik are the contestants. Whether or not Aaron Glenn feels comfortable with one of the three holding down the job in August, remains to be seen.

At the very least, it won’t be Tyrod Taylor. That much is certainly known.
