The New York Jets have made a much-needed addition to their shaky kicker position.
According to a report from SNY, the Jets are signing free agent kicker Younghoe Koo.
Koo, 31, owns a career field goal percentage of 85.3% and a career extra point percentage of 95.9%, coming over 98 games for the Chargers (4 games), Falcons (89 games), and Giants (5 games).
At one point, Koo was one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history. From 2017 to 2023, Koo had made 88.5% of his field goal attempts across 78 games.
Since then, Koo’s career has entered a downward spiral. He has made just 72.1% of his field goal attempts for the Falcons and Giants over the last two seasons (2024-25), including a 4 for 6 run in New York that led to his release during the 2025 season.
Koo joins a Jets kicking competition that lacks proven talent. At the moment, the other kickers on the roster (pending a possible corresponding roster move with Koo’s arrival) are Cade York and Lenny Krieg.
York has made just 73.3% of his career field goal attempts across 23 games. Krieg entered the league through the International Player Pathway program and has yet to appear in a regular season game.
The Jets are looking to replicate the elite production of Nick Folk, who walked to the Falcons in free agency after making a league-high 96.6% of his field goal attempts for New York in 2025. Folk missed one field goal and zero extra points across 16 games.
Koo has struggled as of late, but he has displayed a high ceiling in the league. He should immediately be viewed as the favorite to win New York’s kicking competition.
