The New York Jets aggressively addressed their offensive weaponry in the NFL draft, selecting two pass catchers in the first round: tight end Kenyon Sadiq (16th overall) and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. (30th overall).
But a glaring need still remained after the draft: veteran experience.
After the draft, the Jets seemed poised to rely completely on 25-and-under players in their pass-catching unit. It gave the group a high ceiling, but the floor was low if those young players did not develop as quickly as hoped.
To address this, the Jets turned around and signed free agent wide receiver Tim Patrick.
The 32-year-old was once a solid receiver for the Denver Broncos, recording 734 yards and five touchdowns back in the 2021 season. But his career was derailed by back-to-back season-ending injuries: a torn ACL in 2022 and a torn Achilles in 2023.
Since then, Patrick’s production has declined. In 2024, for the Detroit Lions, he caught 33 passes for 394 yards and three touchdowns (16 games), and this past season, for the Jacksonville Jaguars (16 games), he caught 15 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns.
The question for the Jets is this: Will Patrick’s impact be limited to veteran leadership in the locker room? Or can he still be counted on as a dependable complementary option in the passing game?
The film can help us answer those questions.
In the latest edition of Blewett’s Blitz, we learn everything there is to know about Patrick’s game in a full-fledged breakdown of his All-22 film.
