The injury bug has been ruthless against the New York Jets’ rookies throughout training camp so far.

However, rookies D’Angelo Ponds and Kenyon Sadiq appear to be nearing their return to the practice field.

According to reporters in Florham Park for Wednesday’s joint practice against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Ponds and Sadiq were working off to the side with trainers, signaling they are easing their way back into action.

Ponds suffered a calf strain during the Jets’ first training camp practice of the summer and has yet to return. On the other hand, Aaron Glenn announced last week that Sadiq suffered  โ€œa little setbackโ€ in his recovery from his hernia procedure in May.

While Glenn told reporters on Tuesday that the Jets’ starters will play throughout the preseason, it seems unlikely that Ponds and Sadiq will be active for Friday’s preseason opener against Tampa Bay.

The Jets have received encouraging news regarding several of their injured players these past few days.

Aside from today’s news with Sadiq and Ponds, David Bailey returned to action on Tuesday after a minor ankle tweak, where he dominated as a pass-rusher and even got his hands dirty in some scuffles.

Edge rusher Joseph Ossai was also activated off the team’s PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list. While Ossai won’t practice this week, he can begin his recovery and could return to the practice field next week.

After a rough few weeks on the injury front, the Jets are finally starting to get healthier, which is always encouraging.
