New York Jets rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. will miss at least four games with the ankle sprain that he suffered in the team’s Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans.
On Saturday, it was announced that Cooper is being placed on injured reserve, designated to return.
Cooper will miss the following games:
- Week 2 vs. Green Bay Packers
- Week 3 at Detroit Lions
- Week 4 at Chicago Bears
- Week 5 vs. Cleveland Browns
He will be eligible to return in Week 6 when the Jets visit the New England Patriots. Based on his reported recovery timetable, it seems that New York expects him to be back for that game or shortly after.
Cooper, the 30th overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft, did not need much time to make his presence felt in New York’s season-opening victory. On the team’s opening drive, Cooper threw a fierce block on Titans cornerback Alontae Taylor Jr. before spinning out of two tackles on a 30-yard catch-and-run, helping to set up a touchdown on New York’s first series.
The Indiana product, who stands at six feet and 199 pounds, wasted no time showing his tenacity as a blocker and ball-carrier. Cooper, 22, got the start in the slot for New York, lining up alongside Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell at wide receiver in the Jets’ starting lineup.
With Cooper sidelined, Isaiah Williams is expected to start in the slot for the Jets as they host the Green Bay Packers in Week 2, searching for their first 2-0 start since 2015 with momentum on their side.
