The New York Jets and the Green Bay Packers will face off in their Week 2 matchup soon, and both teams have different storylines heading into the game.
Gang Green is fresh off a convincing 23-10 Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans and is looking to carry that same momentum into their home opener against the Packers.
Green Bay, meanwhile, has been spiraling. After losing Micah Parsons late in 2025, they are 0-5 in full games without him, including a rough 39-22 Week 1 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
With game day almost here, fans must understand this about Sunday’s clash.
Jets are getting Green Bay at the perfect time
The schedule makers couldn’t have scripted a more favorable time for the Jets to face off against the Packers. Momentum is moving in opposite directions for these teams, with the Jets on the upswing.
Along with missing Parsons, the Packers will also be without running back Josh Jacobs, whose loss should be palpable on Sunday. Without him in Week 1, the Packers averaged 3.1 yards per carry and had 67 total rushing yards.
Due to the projected weather forecast at MetLife Stadium, the ground game is expected to play a crucial role in Sunday’s outcome, and the Jets undoubtedly have the upper hand in that area after a 152-yard rushing performance in Week 1.
The Packers also got unfortunate injury news throughout the week involving two offensive-line starters and a couple of key cogs on their defensive line. So, even aside from Parsons and Jacobs, the team could be missing four additional crucial players in the trenches.
It’s also important to understand how important this game is for the Packers. They still haven’t won a game without Parsons, and they also have the league’s worst point differential over those games dating back to last season.
Following an 0-1 start to the season, a win for the Packers is crucial. If they go into MetLife Stadium and lose to the Jets to start 0-2, the outrage from their fanbase will get loud.
A portion of Green Bay’s fanbase already seems to be growing tired of head coach Matt LaFleur. If they start the year 0-2 with a loss coming to the Jets, also given that New York could hold the Packers’ draft pick in Aprilโyikes. That fanbase won’t be happy, to put it mildly.
Of course, that desperation only makes the Packers more hungry. They will enter the game fighting for their lives, so the Jets can’t expect a cakewalk in their home opener.
Still, the Jets are built to exploit many of Green Bay’s weaknesses.
The Jets ran the ball 39 times for 151 yards in Week 1, with the offensive line putting on a show. Meanwhile, the Packers logged a 16.7% missed tackle rate against Minnesota’s designed runs in Week 1, which was the second-highest rate in the league.
Especially on a projected mucky, rainy day in the Meadowlands, the Jets have another chance to control the game through their rushing attack.
On the other side, Green Bay’s offensive line injuries could let Aaron Glenn keep blitzing at a high clip and make Jordan Love uncomfortable.
Again, this is far from a guaranteed win for the Jets. The Packers still have a very talented quarterback, dangerous deep threats, and a coaching staff that has consistently produced competitive teams.
But this is a very favorable matchup for the Jets. They are at home with momentum on their side following a 1-0 start to the year, while Green Bay is wounded and under immense pressure.
We will see what the ultimate outcome is, but the Jets have a prime opportunity to start 2-0.
