New York Jets fan Fireman Ed led a J-E-T-S chant on the plane to Las Vegas
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a fan with more notoriety than New York Jets superfan ‘Fireman’ Ed Anzalone. So when he was spotted on a plane to Las Vegas, where the Jets take on the Raiders on Sunday night, it comes to no surprise he would be asked to lead the team’s infamous chant.
In the video, Fireman Ed is seen being beckoned by passengers on the plane to start the NY Jets chant. The Jets superfan then stands from his seat to hype the crowd up before leading the team’s infamous chant.

As it turns out, that wouldn’t be the last time Ed did the team’s chant as the Jets-Raiders game in Week 9 approaches. Anzalone was seen leading the chant at Circa Las Vegas, a casino in the city.

Fireman Ed is a beloved or beloathed figure in Jets fandom, depending on who’s being asked.
In 2012, Ed famously stepped down as the Jets’ “unofficial” mascot. Anzalone cited other Jets fans and the negativity and harassment as major factors into that decision.
“Listen, I went through the Rich Kotite era — we were 4-28 in that era. Any Jets fan knows this isn’t the worst of times; it isn’t close,” Anzalone said Metro in 2012. “It’s been about the nastiness. I just think society in general — you’re out in your car, there’s no respect at all. I don’t want to put up with that from people taking it out on me anymore.”
Then, after six years of retirement, Anzalone returned. The Jets drafted Sam Darnold third overall in the 2018 NFL Draft and Ed announced he would once again lead the Jets chant.
As for the Jets, their turmoil hasn’t changed much in the past decade. The team continues to struggle at the quarterback position, and that’s led to the longest active playoff drought in the four major American sports. Coming away with a victory against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday night would go a long way in seeing that drought come to an end.
