After the New York Jetsโ€™ rough 27-14 loss to the New England Patriots on Thursday night, former Jets offensive lineman and Super Bowl champion Willie Colon didnโ€™t hold back on quarterback Justin Fields.

Speaking on SNYโ€™s โ€œJets Postgame Live,โ€ Colon delivered a blunt assessment of the Ohio State product, saying he is โ€œnot an NFL quarterback.โ€

“Aaron Glenn is going to sit up here and say he needs to watch the tape. You don’t need to watch anything, Justin Fields is not an NFL quarterback,” said Colon. “Let’s just be honest, and you [Aaron Glenn] can’t sit here and tell your team before games and want them to rally when you’re not giving your team everything they need to be successful.”

Fields opened the night strong, guiding a 14-play drive that chewed more than seven minutes off the clock and capped it with a five-yard touchdown run. He finished with a 58% completion rate, 116 passing yards, a touchdown, and 67 yards on the ground.

Things unraveled after the opening drive. His confidence dipped. He couldnโ€™t fall on a muffed snap he shouldโ€™ve secured, and he missed several wide-open throws that couldโ€™ve gone for significant gains.

Despite flashes of brilliance, Fields finished the night as the same type of quarterback he has been throughout his NFL career: an inconsistent one.

After another performance that stalled the offense, this may be the point where Aaron Glenn and the Jets coaching staff are forced to consider turning to veteran backup Tyrod Taylor as their QB1 for the remainder of the season.

Given all that, itโ€™s hard to argue with Colonโ€™s take.
