While the New York Jets begin OTAs, the main story in New York is the Knicks’ incredible NBA playoff run, which currently has them in the finals for the first time since 1999.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Gang Green expressed their excitement for the Knicks and their playoff run.
โThatโs a gritty team. Itโs hard to be a gritty team without gritty players, and it all starts with the point guard (Jalen Brunson),” said Jets head coach Aaron Glenn. “You can tell the leadership, the fight โ everybody follows that, and itโs easy to follow that. โฆ You really see the influence that he has. Itโs not always verbal; itโs a lot of what he does and how he operates.”
For star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, the Knicks’ run has put into perspective what it could feel like if the Jets finally reach a similar level of success.
โSeeing the people, the way they get behind their team, I know Jet fans are frothing at the mouth to cheer like that, and we want to give it to them,” said Wilson. โThat gives us a taste of what it might look like when we figure this thing out, which we’re excited for the opportunity.โ
Throughout Wilson’s four years with the Jets, the team hasn’t won more than 7 games.
Despite that, he remains bought into the organization’s long-term visionโa main reason he signed a four-year extension with the team last summer.
For Jets fans, the Knicks’ run across the Hudson should provide inspiration for the Jets’ future. As Wilson expressed, it’s a reminder of what meaningful football in New York could look like.
Things in the NFL change quickly. That has become apparent in recent seasons.
As Aaron Glenn would say, “don’t let go of the rope.”
