Following Sunday’s 17-12 win over the Cleveland Browns, the New York Jets are 2-3, and their season remains alive.

To get back to .500, Gang Green will need to upset their division rival, the New England Patriots, in Foxborough. It will be a tough task, but New England could be without several top pieces.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, running back TreVeyon Henderson suffered a high ankle sprain during the Patriots’ win over the Raiders on Sunday, and he’s now expected to miss multiple weeks.

During the Jets’ first matchup against the Patriots last season, Henderson gave the Jets a very difficult time, finding the end zone three times as New England pulled away with a 27-14 victory and the Jets fell to 2-8.

The Pats could also be without starting left tackle Will Campbell, according to Tom Pelissero, who is week-to-week with a knee injury he also suffered on Sunday.

Furthermore, the team’s starting cornerbacks, Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis III, each missed Week 5 due to injuries, with Gonzalez dealing with a shoulder issue and Davis having neck problems. They are expected to return to practice this week, but it remains unknown if they will suit up.

The thinking behind the decision

Set the direction.
Own the decision.

Although over $100M in dead cap is coming off the books, the New York Jets have plenty of tough decisions to make during the 2027 offseason. Deciding which of these decisions is the most important may shape the direction the organization takes.

Your choice changes this single-scenario snapshot. A release or trade opens a roster spot; a restructure creates current-year room at a future cost; a fifth-year option decision looks one year further ahead.

These are alternatives, not a sequence of moves. The opening effective cap is the current simulator packageโ€™s $99.23M total room minus $19.70M net draft reserve. The figures are projections, not a live team ledger.

In other news, New England’s top WR could be returning to the field on Sunday. A.J. Brown, who suffered an ankle injury in Week 1, could play this week, as Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said, “There is a chance.”

The Jets need every advantage they can get as they head into Foxborough. The Patriots, fresh off a two-game win streak that includes a statement 45-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, are 7.5-point home favorites.

To pull off an upset, the Jets will need to play a solid brand of football, but any edge they could get leading up to the game will obviously help, too.
