According to the New York Post, former New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez recently auditioned for an NFL on CBS booth role.

Per Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, Sanchez is one of several former NFL stars who have auditioned for an open analyst role at CBS Sports. Other candidates include Alex Smith, Joey Galloway, and Sean Lee.
Marchand’s report claims that Sanchez “is looked at as someone with a little more personality, who one executive thought could excel in the booth.”
Of the listed candidates, only Galloway has experience in a broadcasting booth, having called college games on ESPN since 2012. Smith and Lee announced their retirements after last season, which they respectively spent with the Washington Football Team and the Dallas Cowboys.
Sanchez, 34, has remained active in football since his retirement in 2019. He was hired by ESPN shortly after his NFL departure and has primarily contributed to the network’s college football endeavors, including the premier Saturday Night Football package on ABC. Sanchez has mostly served as a studio analyst during his time with the Worldwide Leader and has also made appearances on talk and debate programs like Get Up!.
More recently, Sanchez appeared as one of the disguised celebrities on the Fox reality competition series The Masked Singer. According to IMDb, Sanchez is also set to appear in an upcoming documentary centered on Texas high school football star Kenneth Hall.

CBS is currently scheduled to carry a dozen Jets games this season, including their Week 1 contest in Carolina on Sept. 12. They have been the primary network for AFC games since 1998.
The auditions are being held to potentially replace Rich Gannon, whose contract was not renewed after last season. Gannon was paired with network staple Greg Gumbel for the 2020 season after spending several years alongside Kevin Harlan.
CBS is expected to maintain its accoladed top pairing of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo for a fifth season.
