Blewett’s Blitz breaks down the New York Jets’ horrid Week 1 performance against the Buffalo Bills, including Sam Darnold‘s awful day.
Sorry. Week 1 isn’t officially over yet. Thanks to a technical difficulty or two by the NFL, the all-22 film didn’t become available until much later in the week, so Blewett’s Blitz had not been able to do its thing.
Again … sorry. The New York Jets‘ pitiful 27-17 performance against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 must be examined thoroughly.
Just how bad was Sam Darnold? Does it all fall on Adam Gase’s shoulders? Was Marcus Maye a true beast? Did this new-look offensive line perform up to expectations?
We all know Darnold was bad. A lack of weapons simply cannot explain away his brutal misfires on far-too-many occasions. He missed Chris Herndon, Jamison Crowder and Breshad Perriman early, while Crowder dropped a tough one early as well.
Worse yet, Darnold’s pre-snap decisions didn’t make much sense at times. Again, who should shoulder the bulk of the blame, Gase or Darnold?
Blewett also takes a look at the defense and Maye’s dominant performance. Tallying two sacks and flying all over the field, the Florida product filled-in admirably for the long-gone Jamal Adams.
How was Mekhi Becton‘s NFL debut? For the most part, it looked good from the broadcast. Not until the film is unveiled can the kid’s play truly be evaluated.
All of that and more happens on the newest edition of Blewett’s Blitz breakdowns, with this one lasting a marathon three-plus hours.
