NY Jets film session: Is Olu Fashanu due for a Year 3 leap?

The New York Jets’ 2008 offensive line was just named the best NFL offensive line of the past 20 years.

That unit remained dominant through the 2010 season, anchoring three straight winning seasons and two playoff seasons. Since then, the Jets have been desperately trying to get back to that level of success.

It is no coincidence that the offensive line has endured a similar drought to the team itself.

But the Jets are optimistic going into 2026. Their unit features three homegrown players who were chosen in the first two rounds, as well as free agent guard Dylan Parham.

Of the core homegrown trio, left tackle Olu Fashanu is arguably the most important player. After all, he will be tasked with protecting the blindside of Geno Smith and whichever hopeful franchise quarterback walks in the door in 2027.

The Jets chose Fashanu with the 11th overall pick in the 2024 draft. He struggled mightily in three out-of-position starts early in the season, two at right tackle and one at right guard, before finally getting to play left tackle late in the year. Across five starts at left tackle, Fashanu impressed.

Fashanu proceeded to start all 17 games at left tackle in 2025. The results were mixed, as he placed 17th out of 33 left tackles in Pro Football Focus’ rankings. But as Fashanu enters the 2026 season at just 23 years old, the Jets hope there is another sizable leap in his future.
