If the New York Knicks and/or Brooklyn Nets need a basketball scout as the 2021 NBA draft approaches, they might be well off inquiring about the services of Mekhi Becton.

Becton took to Twitter to hype up the hardwood talents of fellow offensive lineman George Fant. The dominant New York Jets left tackle responded to a tweet listing a hypothetical starting five if the team ever traded their cleats for sneakers.

User NYJ Matt, a Jet X contributor and co-founder of the Broadway Jets podcast, included Becton in his fictional five, placing the 2020 first-round pick in the center’s spot.

Zach Wilson and Ashtyn Davis fill the guards’ roles, while Denzel Mims and Lawrence Cager each move from receivers to forwards. The post is accompanied by photos of Becton and Wilson engaged in their former high school roundball endeavors.

But Becton has his own addition: He’d replace Cager with Fant at power forward.

“Forgot my dawg (Fant) at the PF,” Becton said. “That Hi/Low game would’ve been craaaaaazy [sic].”

NYJ Matt responds in style, hinting he has Fant in mind to play the role of the sixth man.

While Becton and Wilson each starred at their respective high schools, Fant took his hardwood efforts a step further, starring at the Division I college basketball level.

Representing the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, Fant earned all-conference honors in each of his four seasons in Bowling Green.

Fant burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2012, not only guiding the seventh-seeded Hilltoppers to the Sun Belt championship but winning the conference tournament’s MVP award as well.

He still stands as the program’s all-time leader in offensive rebounds (357).
