The New York Jets announced some roster moves on Friday evening, ones that will hold some notable defensive names out of the start of training camp activities next week.
We’ve placed DL Quinnen Williams, DL Jonathan Marshall, DL Kyle Phillips and S Ashtyn Davis on the Active/PUP list.
Additionally, we’ve placed DL Vinny Curry, DL Foley Fatukasi and S Marcus Maye on the Active/NFI list.

Defensive linemen Quinnen Williams, Kyle Phillips, and Jonathan Marshall were given Active/Physically Unable to Perform designations, as was safety Ashtyn Davis. Two more front seven representatives, Foley Fatukasi and Vinny Curry, joined safety Marcus Maye on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.
The Jets will be missing some of their notable young names in the front seven with camp activities set to get underway in Florham Park on Tuesday. Williams, the Jets’ top draft pick in 2019, has missed out on the Jets’ spring sessions due to a foot injury suffered while working out at the team facility. He hinted that he would “be able to roll” once the season started.
Meanwhile, Davis is coming off foot surgery while Phillips is coming off a procedure on his ankle, one that ended his sophomore season early. Marshall, the final pick of the Jets’ draft last spring, worked mostly to the side during spring activities.
With these injuries, opportunities open up on the defense for some of the Jets’ notable reserves. Bryce Huff, an undrafted rookie who partook in 14 games last season, should get an opportunity with veteran breakout John Franklin-Myers on the edge while Curry heals. Nathan Shepherd and Tanzel Smart could take over in the interior behind Sheldon Rankins.
In the secondary, veteran newcomer LaMarcus Joyner should take over a leadership role next to Elijah Campbell and J.T. Hassell. Former Jeff Ulbrich disciple Sharrod Neasman is also set to arrive after five years in Atlanta.
