New York Jets announce 13-man practice squad
The New York Jets have signed 13 players to their practice squad.
Comprised entirely of players who were released as part of 53-man roster cutdowns ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline, here is the 13-man unit:
- QB Josh Johnson
- RB Josh Adams
- WR Vyncint Smith
- WR D.J. Montgomery
- TE Kenny Yeboah
- OL Jimmy Murray
- OL Grant Hermanns
- OL Isaiah Williams
- CB Lamar Jackson
- EDGE Ronald Blair
- EDGE Hamilcar Rashed Jr.
- LB Del’Shawn Phillips
- DT Tanzel Smart
Quarterback Josh Johnson lands on the Jets’ practice squad while Mike White makes the active roster as Zach Wilson’s backup quarterback heading into the team’s Week 1 clash against the Panthers, who claimed quarterback James Morgan after he was waived by the Jets.
Running back Josh Adams sticks in New York after a stellar preseason finale that built off of his small-sample success with the team in the 2020 regular season. Wide receiver Vyncint Smith joins Adams thanks to a successful preseason that saw him lead the Jets with six receiving first downs.
Tight end Kenny Yeboah hangs around after he topped off a mostly quiet offseason with a stellar 100-yard, two-touchdown preseason finale. Wide receiver D.J. Montgomery joins him to round out the skill position crew.

A trio of offensive linemen are sticking in Florham Park – interior lineman Jimmy Murray, tackle Grant Hermanns and tackle Isaiah Williams. Former Jets interior lineman Corey Levin was claimed by the Titans.
Cornerback Lamar Jackson is the team’s lone defensive back on the squad.
Ronald Blair and Hamilcar Rashed Jr. remain to provide depth on the edge. Defensive tackle Tanzel Smart earned a practice squad spot on the strength of a standout preseason in which he shined amongst the deepest position group on the Jets’ defense.
Linebacker Del’Shawn Phillips rounds out the 13-man crew.
