Josh Adams joins the New York Jets’ active roster

The New York Jets announced that they have signed running back Josh Adams and safety Sheldrick Redwine to the active roster.

New York had two open spots on its 53-man roster following the trade of tight end Chris Herndon and the placement of wide receiver Jamison Crowder on the reserve/COVID-19 list. A move will have to be made once Crowder returns, which is expected to be sooner rather than later.

Adams had been waived as part of the Jets’ final roster cuts and placed on the practice squad. He joins the active roster while La’Mical Perine deals with a foot injury that has him on a day-to-day status.

The fourth-year running back is coming off of an impressive season finale in which he rushed for 62 yards on 12 carries (5.2 yards per carry). He averaged 5.4 yards per carry over 29 carries with the Jets near the end of the 2020 season.

Redwine’s arrival was reported on Sept. 1 and is now official. The third-year man played in 27 games and started eight of those at free safety over two seasons with the Browns. Cleveland selected him in the fourth round of the 2019 draft.

Safeties Adrian Colbert and Jarrod Wilson join the New York Jets’ practice squad

The Jets have added two safeties to their practice squad.

Adrian Colbert worked out with the Jets on Friday. He played free safety under Robert Saleh for two years with the San Francisco 49ers, appearing in 21 games and starting 12 from 2017-18. Colbert spent this offseason with the Patriots.

Jarrod Wilson spent each of the past five seasons with the Jaguars. He was a backup and special teams player for three years before becoming a starting free safety over the past two seasons, logging 28 starts from 2019-20.

New York’s practice squad sits at 15 players, one man shy of the 16-player limit.
