Braxton Berrios reveals how he found out about All-Pro selection
Last Friday, the NFL’s 2021 All-Pro team was announced. Only one New York Jets player was selected, and that one player was Braxton Berrios, who earned the distinction as a kickoff returner.
For such a prestigious award, Berrios didn’t find out about his selection in a way that one would expect.
Just a few days after being named to the All-Pro team as a kick returner, Berrios cleared the air on how he discovered the news on Barstool Sports radio show “Mush the Line”.
When asked if he found out on vacation, Berrios responded, “Yes, I did. I was actually getting my morning coffee, looking at the ocean, as cheesy as it sounds, and it popped up on Twitter.”
At first, he was unsure about whether or not it was legitimate.
“I immediately texted somebody. I was like ‘Wait, is this real?’, because you never know what you see on Twitter,” said Berrios. “So I had to fact check.”
At the end of the regular season, Berrios and Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey visited Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on vacation with their girlfriends where Berrios ultimately found out about the award.
Berrios is the third Jets kick returner to be named All-Pro in 14 years. Leon Washington won in 2008 and Andre Roberts won in 2018.
After his career season in 2018, Roberts signed with the Bills as a free agent, as then-Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan didn’t attempt to re-sign him.
Three years later, the Jets and their All-Pro kick returner are in a similar position. At the start of the new league year, Berrios will be an unrestricted free agent and could potentially leave.

Head coach Robert Saleh has made his feelings of Berrios known over the past few weeks. “Everyone knows how we feel about Braxton,” said Saleh. “We want him here.”
At the same time, whether or not the Jets re-sign Berrios will be up to general manager Joe Douglas, who has made it clear in the past that he will not overpay.
It’s worth mentioning that Berrios is a more valuable asset than Roberts was when he was in New York. Berrios offers more on the offensive side of the ball. In a small sample size, Berrios played well in the slot where he quickly became one of Zach Wilson‘s favorite targets at the end of the season.
Berrios has undoubtedly become a fan favorite in New York over the past few seasons, and on top of that, he has blossomed into a nice player.
