Joe Burrow looks to join a club with Joe Montana and New York Jets legend Joe Namath
Quarterback Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals took the NFL world by storm with their galvanizing performance in the AFC championship game. The Bengals erased an 18-point deficit to defeat the two-time reigning AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs on the road and advance to their first Super Bowl in 33 years.
Reaching the big stage is nothing new for the 25-year-old Burrow. Just two years ago, Burrow led the LSU Tigers to a 42-25 victory over the Clemson Tigers in the 2020 National Championship Game. Burrow threw for 463 yards and five touchdowns in the win.
If Burrow were to couple up his National Championship win with a Lombardi Trophy, he’d place himself in some exclusive company.
Only two starting quarterbacks in football history have won both a National Championship and a Super Bowl: Joe Montana and New York Jets legend Joe Namath.

Namath led the Alabama Crimson Tide to a National Championship in 1964. Four seasons later, he captained the New York Jets to a 16-7 victory over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III.
Like Burrow, Namath was 25 years old at the time of his first Super Bowl appearance.
Montana helped Notre Dame become National Champions in 1977 and went on to win four Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers.
Just like Burrow and Namath, Montana was 25 years old when he partook in his first Super Bowl – which, coincidentally enough, came against the Bengals.
Should Burrow defeat the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI, he would officially become the third member of this illustrious group of Joes that are anything but average. What should we call this club? How about “The Three Ami-Joes”?
I’ll see myself out.
