Bleacher Report thinks Zach Wilson could soar high for the New York Jets in 2022
The national media’s bubbly feelings for the 2022 New York Jets are still in full swing.
As the offseason barrels on and fans get their first looks at the new additions to the roster, hot takes keep coming left and right. One take stood out on Saturday about second-year quarterback Zach Wilson.
Alex Kay of Bleacher Report put out a slew of picks for “dark horse” 2022 leaders in major offensive categories. Among them, he proposed Wilson to be a surprise prospect to lead the NFL in passing touchdowns. This would be the first time a Jets quarterback accomplished the feat, and would certainly be a part of a massive year two leap for the young signal-caller if achieved.
“New York has surrounded the 22-year-old with a slew of weapons,” Kay writes. “The team’s receiving corps appears to be one of the deepest in the league following the addition of Garrett Wilson, the No. 10 overall pick last month. Wilson will link up with incumbents Corey Davis, Elijah Moore and Braxton Berrios to form a dangerous crew of pass-catchers for Wilson to target.
“With rookie running back Breece Hall augmenting a backfield that already featured an up-and-coming star in Michael Carter, the Jets have set Wilson up with everything required to put up big numbers in 2022.”
Wilson tossed just nine passing touchdowns in 2021, leaving him well short of the 43 touchdown passes thrown by the league leader in Tom Brady. The New York Jets’ franchise record for pass touchdowns sits at just 31, set by Ryan Fitzpatrick back in 2015.
General manager Joe Douglas has equipped Wilson with an admirable array of weapons and there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about Wilson making strides in year two. If Wilson were to create a franchise-first moment, then Jets fans will surely be flying high into 2023 and beyond.
