The New York Jets’ rookie minicamp is almost upon us, which means their collection of drafted and undrafted talent will converge this week to make a first impression on the organization.
Top picks like Armand Membou and Mason Taylor will get an opportunity to show why they are deserving of their draft status. Others like Tyler Baron can use minicamp as a way to prove they belong.
Rookie minicamp goes beyond New York’s seven draft picks, though. There are many undrafted players to keep an eye on over the week of work ahead.
And we’ll take you through the biggest names to watch for here.
Jets UDFAs To Watch
It’s easy to say that it’ll be an exciting time for the Jets to look at some of their top picks at rookie camp. There are always a couple of undrafted free agents and invitees that stand out and make a name for themselves over the three days.
In the case of New York’s UDFAs, the team should be excited to see each of the following three players this week.
Donovan Edwards
Edwards is my favorite UDFA pickup for the Jets and across the league. The Michigan standout was a key reason why the Wolverines were able to win the national championship two years ago. While he’s backlogged with the Jets’ running back room, Edwards is a player to watch going into rookie camp.
Dean Clark
If you asked me which UDFA will have the most legitimate chance to make the 53-man roster, I would tell you the hard-hitting safety in Clark. The Jets have questions at the safety position, and Clark is one of the better UDFA signings across the league. He should be able to compete right away for a spot.
Brady Cook
There’s a legitimate chance the Missouri signal-caller can find a way to be the Jets’ third quarterback on the roster. He’ll need to beat out Adrian Martinez for that to happen during OTAs and training camp.
It’s a tall order, but Cook is the kind of athlete worth examining in a minicamp like this.
Honorable Mention: Jordan Clark
New York’s cornerback room is as crowded as any other group in the NFL. It’ll be tough for any player on the roster bubble to do enough to earn a spot in that group. Notre Dame cornerback Jordan Clark may be a project for the Jets to work with, but he’ll need to stand out immediately if he wants a role moving forward.
