The New York Jets defense got the better of the offense at Friday’s training camp practice

In their final training camp practice prior to Saturday’s Green & White Scrimmage at MetLife Stadium, it was the New York Jets’ defense that won the day. An overwhelming pass-rush created a ghastly day for the New York offense.

First-team quarterback Zach Wilson was rarely given a chance to get anything done due to the persistent pressure brought upon him by his defensive comrades. Edge rusher Carl Lawson was responsible for much of that havoc, as he enjoyed a dominant practice.

Second-team quarterback Joe Flacco came crashing down to Earth after earning rave reviews for his performance in recent training camp practices. Flacco threw back-to-back interceptions at one point, getting picked off by safety Will Parks and linebacker Hamsah Nasirildeen.

Rookie edge rusher Jermaine Johnson has been making noise throughout the past few days. Johnson put another sack to his name on Friday.

On the injury front, the Jets saw two offensive players return to the fold: veteran running back Tevin Coleman and rookie tight end Jeremy Ruckert. Both players made their debut in team drills. Coleman even got some first-team reps.

Running back Ty Johnson remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.

In other news, Mekhi Becton took the field with a brace on his right knee, which he had not been wearing previously. The right knee is the one that Becton injured in Week 1 of last season.

The brace seems to be a precautionary measure for Becton. His trainer, Duke Manyweather, appeared to confirm on Twitter that Becton will be wearing the brace during the season.

As Jets X-Factor’s Vitor Paiva points out, it’s worth noting that, as a right tackle, Becton will be putting more weight on that right knee since he will be kick-sliding with it. So, the brace could help him deal with that.

The Jets will head out to East Rutherford on Saturday night for their annual Green & White Scrimmage.
