Zach Wilson suffered a bone bruise in the New York Jets’ preseason opener, per reports
Information is beginning to surface regarding the status of New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson after he suffered a knee injury in the first quarter of the team’s preseason opener in Philadelphia.
According to Jeff Howe, a national NFL insider for The Athletic, sources indicate that Wilson suffered a bone bruise and that his ligaments “are in good shape.” Brian Costello of the New York Post later confirmed the report while adding that Wilson also has a meniscus tear and is expected to miss 2-4 weeks. Costello also says that Wilson will get a second opinion.

Wilson suffered his injury on a scramble while attempting to juke out a defender and continue running toward the middle of the field. It occurred during his second offensive drive of the game.
Zach Wilson injury — better angle of right knee. Slight buckle of the right knee. Concern of ACL, but hopefully just a bone bruise. https://t.co/CYQE2nepsj pic.twitter.com/NHOUZQUyzK

Head coach Robert Saleh was non-commital on Wilson’s status when speaking to the media after the game, consistently reiterating that he preferred not to make any declarations until after the team received MRI results on Monday. He cited the team’s previous handling of Mekhi Becton’s injury status as a reason to be patient.
This is a massive break for the Jets, whose 2022 season appeared to be on the brink of disaster for about 15 hours. Due to the non-contact nature of Wilson’s injury, a much more serious result easily could have transpired. But it appears the crisis has been averted.
