Watch Zach Wilson run through drills in his return to the practice field
New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has returned – to the practice field, that is.
Thirty-three days after suffering a bone bruise and meniscus tear in a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Zach Wilson threw on a red No. 2 jersey and trotted back onto the practice field in Florham Park, New Jersey. Wilson can be seen running through drills during Wednesday’s practice in the video below, via SNY.

Prior to Week 1, Jets head coach Robert Saleh declared that the team’s Week 4 game in Pittsburgh is the earliest that Wilson could return. If that timetable holds, Wilson will remain sidelined for the Jets’ next two games against the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals.
Since Saleh’s announcement, there has been no indication that Wilson is ahead or behind schedule in his quest to return. The current expectation remains that Wilson will make his season debut against the Steelers on October 2 (barring any setbacks).
Still, Jets fans have to be optimistic about what they can see from Wilson in the footage from practice. He appears to be moving well and is not wearing a brace over his knee.
Saleh stated that Joe Flacco is expected to get his second consecutive start in relief of Wilson when the team heads to Cleveland this Sunday. His comments indicated that there were no serious considerations about turning the reigns over to third-string quarterback Mike White, but one has to wonder if that stance will change heading into Week 3 if Flacco has another poor game.
