New York Jets will wear this uniform combination for only the second time in franchise history
Keeping up with his weekly tradition, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson took to Twitter with his announcement of the team’s uniform for its upcoming game.
Johnson had a surprise in store for Jets fans this week (one that will thrill some and elicit groans from others). He revealed the Jets will be wearing white jerseys and … wait for it … black pants against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4.

This will be only the second time the Jets have gone with the white jersey/black pants combination since introducing the black set as part of their uniform overhaul in 2019. The only other instance was in Week 9 of the 2021 season when they debuted the combo in a 45-30 Thursday night loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
The Jets have shied away from pairing the black uniform elements with the green or white elements. Outside of the 2021 Colts game and the upcoming Steelers game, the Jets have only worn the black jerseys and black pants as a full set. They are yet to wear a black-and-green combination or pair the black jersey with white pants.
New York plans to wear its all-black uniform set in three games this season (all at home): Week 8 vs. New England, Week 12 vs. Chicago, and Week 16 vs. Jacksonville. This year, the Jets will also be wearing a new matte black helmet alongside their all-black uniform.
Jets quarterback Zach Wilson will be making his season debut this week. Wilson did not play in last year’s game against the Colts, so this will be his first time wearing the white jersey/black pants uniform. Here is a look at Wilson donning the set.
