The New York Jets will try to keep their playoff hopes alive when they square off against the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Metlife Stadium. New York, which has dropped two straight games and three of the last four, is looking to get back on track. The Lions have won five of their last six and believe they can play with anyone right now.
Despite the change at quarterback from Mike White to Zach Wilson, the Jets have moved to one-point favorites at FanDuel after opening the week as one-point underdogs.
New York Jets vs. Detroit Lions moneyline
- Detroit Lions: -106
- New York Jets: -110
The New York Jets are -110 on the moneyline, meaning a $100 bet would pay out $90.91 of profit.
After starting the season 1-6, the Lions have been firing on all cylinders for the last month. They have some quality wins but none are bigger than the 34-23 win they picked up last week over their division rivals, the 10-3 Minnesota Vikings. Detroit’s defense was a big reason why the Lions were losing games at the start of the season, but at this point, the defense has been improving every week.
New York must be able to throw the ball to win. Although improving, Detroit’s defense is still one of the worst at stopping the pass. The Lions are allowing the third-most passing yards per game at 263.4. If the protection holds up, the Jets should be able to throw the ball well and take advantage of a bad passing defense.
New York Jets vs. Detroit Lions over-under
- New York Jets vs. Detroit Lions over-under: 43.5
- Over: -108
- Under: -112
In my opening line article earlier in the week, my initial thoughts were this game could be a shootout. However, after getting through the week and getting more clarity on Mike White, I think this game will stay under the total. The total is relatively low but I think this game will be low scoring.
Against this Jets defense, it will not be easy for the Lions to move the ball. The Jets have the secondary to match up with the Lions’ playmakers.
The Jets offense will be missing Corey Davis, who is a huge piece for both the pass game and run game.
Lastly, with Zach Wilson starting at quarterback, you never know what you are going to get. He could have a great game or a really bad game. His uncertainty would make me stay away from betting this total but I would lean under.
New York Jets vs. Detroit Lions injuries
Mike White has not been cleared for contact by doctors and has been ruled out with a rib injury. Corey Davis and Brandin Echols have also been ruled out after not practicing all week. DT Quinnen Williams (calf) is listed as questionable and Robert Saleh says Williams has a 50/50 chance of playing.
Detroit is banged up heading into Sunday. Kayode Awosika and Derrick Barnes have been ruled out. Michael Brockers is listed as doubtful with an illness. Jason Cabinda (ankle), Mike Hughes (illness), Aidan Hutchinson (illness), and Frank Ragnow (foot) are all questionable.
