Promises made are promises kept as former New York Jets center Nick Mangold sends a gift to rookie Joe Tippmann
Since retiring from the NFL, Nick Mangold has been somewhat of an ambassador for the New York Jets. Whether it’s offering his services to assist the team as a coach, playing realtor to Aaron Rodgers (and Derek Carr), or serving as an advertising spokesperson, Mangold has turned into a living legend for Jets fans. He’s also been extending the olive branch to one of the Jets’ latest draft picks.
In the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Jets selected Wisconsin offensive lineman Joe Tippmann. Tippmann is an incredibly high-IQ center who plays past the whistle with incredible effort. In a lot of ways, he should remind Jets fans of Mangold. To no one’s surprise, the ’22 Ring of Honor inductee loved this pick by the Jets.
Immediately after Tippmann was selected, Mangold made a point to reach out to the newly acquired Jet. He welcomed Joe to the team and promised him a bottle of Mangold’s 74 barbeque sauce.
Love the pick for the @nyjets with @JoeTippmann. Cant wait to see you in the middle. I know a guy who can get you some @seventyfourbbq. It’ll be waiting in your locker for you.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Mangold kept his promise to the Jets rookie. On May 4, Mangold tweeted a photo of Tippmann’s locker. In the photo, you can see two different flavors of Mangold’s own 74 BBQ sauce with the tweet captions, “Promises Made, Promises Delivered.”
Promises Made, Promises Delivered. Welcome @JoeTippmann to the @nyjets with a little @seventyfourBBQ in your locker. Also, I now expect to be on the rookie breakfast sandwich list… #RookieDuties pic.twitter.com/27nwcZ7aD0

With such an introduction to the team, Tippmann knows he’ll have plenty of pressure – and support – to live up to the expectations of the Jets’ legend. And, in due time, Tippmann could find his name carved in Jets lore, too.
