Is Allen Lazard worthy of being the NY Jets’ No. 2 WR?

The film reveals whether Allen Lazard can be the Robin to Garrett Wilson’s Batman

As soon as the New York Jets were rumored to be going hard after four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers, most assumed former Packers WR Allen Lazard would follow him over.

Well, they were right. Lazard was the Jets’ first signing once the free agency period opened.

The full, member-only Allen Lazard film breakdown (2:19:00 in length) can be found at the bottom of this article (must be a Jets X-Factor member and logged into the site).

Prior to Lazard signing with the Jets, his rumored price tag was somewhere in the $13-15 million range, which was rich for my blood. Lazard ended up landing for a much more reasonable price at $11 million per year, which is nearly a bargain considering today’s wide receiver market.

At first, it was widely assumed the Jets would cut Corey Davis after signing Lazard. Davis has an escapable contract and a somewhat similar skill set to Lazard.

But it looks like Lazard and Davis will both be playing for the Jets in 2023. Not only does Davis remain on the roster in June, but Jets head coach Robert Saleh has insisted multiple times throughout the offseason that Davis will be a valuable piece of the team.

In terms of snaps per game and targets per game, Davis was the Jets’ No. 2 wide receiver behind Garrett Wilson last year. But will Lazard overtake Davis as the Jets’ No. 2 WR in 2023?

Some view Lazard as a player who has only been propped up by Aaron Rodgers. However, the 27-year-old, 6-foot-5 and 227-pound Lazard isn’t just “handcuffed” to Rodgers. He offers some exciting traits that the Jets have lacked in recent years.

  • What are those traits?
  • How should he be used in Hacketts’ offense?
  • How can Lazard improve his game?

All of this and more will be broken down in the latest Blewett’s Blitz film review! Plus, a list of strengths and weaknesses can be seen at the bottom of the page!
