Why are New York Jets fans sleeping on Randall Cobb?

Building an NFL championship roster is not only about the upper-tier players. It’s also about the depth of the roster and its overall chemistry.

The New York Jets‘ wide receiver position has come a long way in the last few years. Gone are the days of starting players like David Nelson, ArDarius Stewart and Deontay Burnett – players who would not even make this Jets roster.

But the goal is not to one-up terrible Jets teams of the past. The Jets are trying to win a Super Bowl, and to do that, depth is critically important.

After adding Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman to the receiving room while subtracting Elijah Moore, the Jets built a well-rounded core from WR 1-4. But the depth was still a major question mark.

The NFL Draft came and went without the Jets picking up a depth WR. Denzel Mims was poised to be the Jets’ WR5, and he is far from a proven commodity.

Just a few days after the draft, the Jets signed 32-year-old WR Randall Cobb – someone who is not only very familiar with Aaron Rodgers, but is also very familiar with the offense the Jets will be running under coach Nathaniel Hackett.

Cobb provides applauded veteran leadership and the ability to help young WRs grow in this specific offense. But what does he have left to offer on the field?

While not the WR he once was, Cobb offers great depth to the Jets WR room. A thorough review of Cobb’s 2022 film proves that he has more left in the tank than many fans realize.

  • Is Cobb underrated?
  • What does he provide at his age?
  • What should his role be in the offense?
  • Is he an upgrade over Denzel Mims and Jeff Smith?

These questions and many more are answered on this edition of Blewett’s Blitz. Plus, a list of strengths and weaknesses can be seen at the bottom of this article!
