The sample was small, but Tony Adams’ late-2022 film was promising
Safety was one of the most questionable positions on the New York Jets‘ roster entering this offseason. It’s a unit that struggled in 2022, but the Jets didn’t prioritize the position over the past few months, leaving fans with plenty of concerns going into 2023.
Former Ravens safety Chuck Clark was going to be part of the solution. Unfortunately, Clark’s season is already over due to a torn ACL.

Adrian Amos was signed to replace Clark. However, the Jets’ main problem at safety coming into the offseason was their lack of a free safety – and Amos doesn’t solve that problem. Clark wasn’t going to, either. Both players are at their best in the box, and the same can be said for Jordan Whitehead, who is set to return after a rough 2022 season.
So, who is going to fill Lamarcus Joyner’s shoes as the Jets’ free safety?
Don’t be surprised if it’s 24-year-old Tony Adams.
While the 2022 undrafted free agent from Illinois still has much to prove after playing only 118 defensive snaps in his rookie season, Adams showed a lot to like in his brief stint at free safety near the end of the 2022 regular season. On the newest edition of Blewett’s Blitz, we break down Adams’ film from his rookie year.
