Can New York Jets fans trust Wes Schweitzer as a backup offensive lineman?

As the New York Jets have learned over the past few seasons, depth is crucial along the offensive line. This is especially true for a team like the Jets that has multiple starters with major injury question marks going into the 2023 season.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas made an effort to strengthen the Jets’ offensive line depth in the 2023 offseason. Douglas added to the second-string OL with players like Billy Turner, Trystan Colon, Carter Warren, and Wes Schweitzer, who the Jets signed to a two-year, $5 million contract with $3.2 million guaranteed.

The full, member-only Wes Schweitzer film breakdown can be found at the bottom of this article (must be a Jets X-Factor member and logged into the site).

Schweitzer, who turns 30 in September, brings 60 career starts to the Jets’ offensive line. He offers versatility on the interior, having started games at all three of left guard, right guard, and center.

  • What is Schweitzer’s best position?
  • Can he be trusted at multiple spots?
  • Is Schweitzer an upgrade compared to past Jets backups?

To answer these questions and many more, we break down Schweitzer’s film on this episode of Blewett’s Blitz. Plus, a list of strengths and weaknesses can be seen at the bottom of this article!

The O-line wins and loses games. Schemes and game planning depend on how well the O-line is holding up in both the pass and run. The Jets have there QB. Now the question is can they protect him and open up the run game?
