Quinnen Williams still has a hungry and humble mindset with the New York Jets despite a big contract

The last time the New York Jets signed a defensive tackle to a big contract extension, it didn’t work out so well. However, D.J. Reed is reassuring Jets fans that Quinnen Williams‘ career won’t head in the same direction.

Speaking at the player availability portion on Day 1 of the Jets’ reporting to training camp, Reed explained that he was very excited for Williams over the extension. However, when he reached out to congratulate his teammate, what he heard back was heartwarming to him.

“I wouldn’t be in this situation if you weren’t here,” Williams responded.

Reed responded that Williams had earned it ever since he was drafted No. 3 overall. Then the 25-year-old first-team All-Pro said words that should reassure Jets fans everywhere.

Reed said that Williams intimated, “I’m hungry. I want to go back to the Pro Bowl and be an All-Pro. I don’t want to just get paid and kind of fall off. I really want to be the greatest at what I’m doing.”

According to Reed, “That’s a guy you want to pay.”

While talk is cheap, hearing that Quinnen is still hungry for more is excellent news for the Jets. Big Q was the team’s MVP in 2022, and he is the monster in the middle who makes the entire defense tick. After a breakout season and a large payday, this former first-round pick is not resting on his laurels.

In this way, Williams is the complete opposite of Muhammad Wilkerson, who stopped working after he got paid. The Jets have their leader for many seasons to come.
