The New York Jets have a budding star in Alijah Vera-Tucker

Whether it’s Aaron Rodgers, Sauce Gardner, Quinnen Williams, Garrett Wilson, or Breece Hall, the New York Jets have a ton of splashy stars on their roster.

But don’t forget to include Alijah Vera-Tucker on that list.

The full, member-only Alijah Vera-Tucker film breakdown (26 plays) can be found at the bottom of this article (must be a Jets X-Factor member and logged into the site).

The Jets traded up in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft to select Vera-Tucker with the 14th overall pick. Hopes were high for the USC product, who had played both tackle and guard in college but was expected to play guard in New York.

Vera-Tucker showed plenty of potential in his rookie year while lining up at left guard. In 2022, Vera-Tucker moved to right guard and started the season on a tear. Soon, a rash of injuries forced Vera-Tucker to play both left tackle and right tackle for the Jets. He held up strongly at every position and seemed to be on his way to an All-Pro season.

Unfortunately, Vera-Tucker’s season ended in Week 7 due to a triceps injury. But those first seven games were enough to make it clear: Vera-Tucker is a special talent. This is especially true when he lines up at the guard position.

Vera-Tucker’s ability to play tackle in a pinch is an invaluable trait, but it’s at right guard where he looks like one of the best players in the NFL at his position. Some don’t realize how dominant of a guard Vera-Tucker already was in his second season. His film at guard is a joy to watch, as he displays many of the traits you typically see in an All-Pro player.

  • What are the traits make Vera-Tucker so good?
  • Is Vera-Tucker already an elite guard?
  • How reliable is he at tackle?
  • Where can he still improve?

All of these questions and many more are answered in this edition of Blewett’s Blitz.
